I'm Ryan Kmonk — a newly graduated Creative Technologist passionate about blending immersive media, historical storytelling, and innovation to create experiences that educate, inspire, and connect.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Immersive Media and History, with a Business minor, from Chatham University in April 2025. Through hands-on projects, collaborative research, and real-world production experiences, I have built a unique skill set that merges creative vision, technical mastery, and entrepreneurial thinking.

My Story

My journey into immersive media began during elementary school, when I first discovered the magic of stop-motion animation. Crafting short films with LEGO minifigures sparked a lifelong passion for using technology to tell meaningful stories — a passion that has evolved and strengthened over the years.

At Chatham University, I refined my technical and creative skills through hands-on work with tools like Unity, TouchDesigner, and Blender, as well as programming languages such as Python, C#, and HTML/CSS. I honed expertise in 3D visualization, AR/VR development, game design, projection mapping, and historical research — building immersive environments that both educate and captivate.

As an Immersive Media Studio Assistant, I collaborated with students and faculty to develop prototypes and manage high-tech studio spaces. I expanded my hands-on experience with 3D modeling, hardware integration, and sound design, while sharpening my leadership and project management skills.

Some of my proudest work includes:

  • Cemigram (2025) — An immersive projection-mapped memorial experience honoring personal legacies through motion graphics, ambient sound, and visual storytelling.

  • D-Day VR Experience (2024) — A historically accurate VR simulation transporting users to the beaches of Normandy, blending historical research with real-time interactive technology.

  • The Forgotten Front: China’s Unsung Sacrifice (2024) — A documentary project illuminating underrepresented WWII narratives using motion graphics and archival storytelling.

  • Za-mbie: Zomberia (2024) — An accessible, action-packed VR game infused with humor and fast-paced gameplay.

  • Clash of Brothers: A Civil War Diorama (2024) — A brief 3D animation inspired by Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg.

In addition to immersive media, I have explored traditional filmmaking and social storytelling. Projects like “The Gen Z Loneliness Epidemic” mini-documentary and “UWAK: Union Workers Against Karens” (which placed 3rd in the 2021 FilmNOW Festival) reflect my commitment to raising awareness of social issues through engaging media formats. My Eagle Scout documentary, “The Quiet Crisis,” tackled teenage depression and further fueled my mission to utilize creative media for positive change.

Throughout all my work, one guiding belief has been that technology should be used to honor humanity, inspire empathy, and connect generations. Whether through interactive historical experiences or projection-mapped memorials, I aim to create projects that leave a lasting emotional impact.

My leadership experiences — from directing film crews to working at The Walt Disney Company through the Disney College Program — taught me the value of collaboration, resilience, and crafting meaningful experiences for diverse audiences.

As I continue forward, I’m excited to grow my portfolio, take on new collaborations, and develop immersive experiences that challenge, move, and inspire.
