Cemigram

This work serves as a prototype for a new kind of memorial: digital, immersive, and designed not only to remember but to evoke emotions. The service, humor, and legacy of my great-grandfather, Gerald John Krahling, are showcased through a unique format: a Cemigram—a projected visual obituary designed to bring stories to life through light, motion, and memory.

Projected directly onto a physical wooden headstone, this experience uses real-time visuals, original animation, ambient soundscapes, and motion graphics to recreate pivotal moments across 18 dynamic slides. From his courageous experiences during World War II to quiet afternoons spent building furniture and collecting coins, each scene invites viewers into a world shaped by love, resilience, and faith.

This is more than a projection—it’s a living memory, looping through moments of courage, joy, heartbreak, and legacy. The experience runs automatically, gently transitioning between slides every few seconds, blending ambient audio and visual storytelling into a soft, respectful reflection of a life well-lived.

This work serves as a prototype for a new kind of memorial: digital, immersive, and designed not only to remember, but to evoke emotions.
